I know what you're thinking. I love guacamole and I love hummus, but do they really taste good together? This recipe was found in the July issue of O magazine, and modified slightly by me for this blog post. Give it a try! You'll get a delicious dip that is packed with protein and all the health benefits of avocado.
Ingredients:
1 can (15oz) chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained, rinsed
1 large (or 2 small) cloves garlic
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp water
2 Tbsp lime juice (about 1/2 lime squeezed)
1/2 tsp onion powder (or 2 Tbsp chopped red onion)
1 cup loosely packed cilantro leaves
1 jalapeno, seeded and diced (or 1/4 tsp chili powder and 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper)
1/4 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp paprika
1 medium avocado, peeled and pitted (or 1/2 of a Florida "slimcado" - the big one)
Mix all ingredients into a food processor. Pulse until mixture starts to smooth out. Scrape the sides of the processor with a spatula, and add equal parts oil and water to thin if needed. Serve with tortilla chips or pitas bread.
